Task

• Redesign the Dominion Post news website to be engaging, usable and suitable "within current information consumption patterns online" 
• Context of informing people about their community and world
• Look and feel, tone, hierarchy 
• Semiotics, rhetorical style, ease of access of info - what is important, engaging, useful?
• How can the Dom Post website increase its relevance for tomorrow?

Daily Futures presentation - Maggie and Katherine

We chose to present Snapchat as an interesting way that people around our age are sharing information and connecting with one another. I don't actually use it that much partly because my phone is old and slow (iPhone 4 - basically a brick) and because I feel like it's quite superficial. I think I was overlooking the momentary and casual nature of it being part of its charm and that how we communicate and interact should and will be a mixture of physical/digital and serious/fun. Perhaps the future of news/information sharing will or could be more personalised and interactive.

Lenovo, LG, and Samsung have headsets that are cheap and even free add-ons when you buy a new phone. These things are pushing VR into the mainstream. That, in turn, amps up the pressure for manufacturers to build phones that can do even more.Your next phone may not be an incredibly realistic window into virtual reality. But the one after it almost certainly will be. And when it arrives, it will democratize VR in a way no headset tethered to a PC ever could.

Facebook now builds wireless antennas that can beam Internet signals across cities and well beyond. According to Facebook’s data, about 97 percent of the world’s population lives within that radius, which would, in theory, allow ARIES to connect a majority of the people on Earth who are now unconnected—and make sure they have the infrastructure they need to, well, use Facebook.

As it becomes harder and harder for us to juggle apps on our phones, and as it becomes harder and harder for businesses to grab our attention with a new app—the good old egalitarian web can provide a viable alternative.
